The Crusading Couch episode 6: game reviews!

April’s episode of The Crusading Couch is here and ready for the listeners!
This month we tested out a new episode format where we review (for lack of a better word) three RPGs. We outlined their settings, touched on the rules, discussed the various pro’s and con’s of the games, and then suggest who might enjoy these games.

The three games we talked about were: Eclipse Phase, New World of Darkness, and Star Wars: Edge of the Empire.

Reminder that tomorrow is the last day of this months writing challenge. Raymond feels a little behind so he’s got a lot of typing to do today!

The Crusading Couch episode 5: player conflict

In this months episode of The Crusading Couch; Billy asks Kim and Raymond about player conflict and party disputes.
We discuss arguments over loot division, as well as GM’s trying too hard to please everyone. We also come back to a few themes from earlier episodes and view them in a new light. All in all, we think it’s an entertaining episode.

We’re still trying to grow our audience, so if you know someone that might like our stuff please SHARE it with them.

When we reach 100 likes on Facebook, or 100 subscribers on WordPress/Sound Cloud, we are going to run a special viewers choice one shot.
YOU, the Listeners, will get to pick the setting and system. You could have us play as the magical princesses of Saturn, on a quest to save their father from an Earthican death cult!
So please, like us on Facebook.

Farewell from the past, I’m Raymond.

The Crusading Couch episode 4: story organisation.

This week, in lieu of an Arcanum Quest episode, we have this months Crusading Couch episode. In this podcast we discuss the importance of planning and organising your story. We also have a guest on, our friend Caitlyn. She’s been involved with role playing for a while and we thought she’d offer some interesting insight.

We hope you enjoy this episode of The Crusading Couch. If you did, please share it with your friends.

Crusading Couch: news for February 2015

We’ll be recording a new episode of The Crusading Couch this weekend, the topic is organisation.
Both the planning of scenarios and adventures (working out your story), as well as planning for games (working out where you’ll be playing, snacks, transport).

If you’ve got any ideas for this episode or a future one, please leave us a comment. or you could email us.

If you like what we post please share it with others.
Sharing our content increases the chances that someone new might discover a love for role playing, or even just actual plays. If you’d like to show support in another way you can follow us on WordPress or Soundcloud, or like us on Facebook.
When we get to 100 followers or likes (which ever comes first) we will be doing a special listeners choice recording.
It could be anything! It could be a mecha combat RPG set during the Vietnam war, featuring imagery reminiscent of the great Greek tragedies.

Farewell from the past, I’m Raymond.

Crusading Couch news…kinda

Thought I’d see what you’re all interested in, is there something you’d like to see us talk about on The Crusading Couch in the future?
We’re currently looking at diversifying our panel, but I’m more interested in new topics to explore. Something I’d like to do is a GM advice episode…but I’m not sure on how to structure that yet.

We’ve also been looking at doing interviews with game developers (though that is a little beyond as at the moment). I’ve also been thinking about doing a live streamed game, though that is still just an idea.

ALSO: a reminder that when we hit 100 subscribers on WordPress or Sound Cloud, or 100 likes on Facebook; we are going to do a listeners choice actual play.
You, the Listeners, will be able to send us in suggestions for setting, rules systems, themes, what ever. We’ll pick the ones we like most and then have you all vote on which one we’ll play.

Finally, at the moment we are quite small in terms of listeners, but I’d really like to grow our audience. A key part of our strategy for doing that is you, the people reading this. Every time you link to our page, mention us in conversation, or reblog us; you are potentially increasing our reach. If one new person finds us by clicking your link, that is worth it to us. so please share our content.

The Crusading Couch episode 3: letting go.

In this episode, we take a crack at the topic of ending stories, campaigns, and  letting go of your characters; both in death and retirement. We didn’t realise how hard this topic would be to talk about until we started recording, but hopefully you find it interesting and entertaining.

If you like our content, please subscribe or like us on Facebook.
We’d also love to hear from you. You can find our contact information on our about page.

News and promotion.

POINT 1
The next episode of The Crusading Couch is going to deal with letting go of characters and campaigns. We’ll be looking at ways of coping with character death, the right moment to end a story (be it a characters, or a campaigns), and a bunch of alternative ways of approaching these topics.

If there is anything you think we should talk about in this topic, please leave us a comment or drop us an email. Hell, if there is anything you’d like to share with us; please drop us a line. You can find our contact info on our about page.

POINT 2
We are just getting started here at [IQH] and we’d love to keep on doing it for years to come. Part of what will make that possible is sharing links to our site, passing around our posts, and helping people find our content. WITH THAT IN MIND: when we get to 100 likes on our Facebook page (or 100 subscribers on WordPress, which ever comes first) Raymond will run a one shot game where you, the Listeners, choose the setting/theme. You want robot alien noir, set in a post World War II Germany; baby, we will make that happen. So PLEASE like, comment, and most importantly SHARE our post.

Farewell from the past, I’m Raymond.

the crusading couch episode 2: traits we like in players

in this episode of our gaming theory podcast we talk about desirable traits in players. we talk about things we like as GMs and as players ourselves. we also get VERY side tracked, but it’s all useful and fun. this one’s a little longer than the last but only by 20 minutes.

if you liked this podcast then please share it 🙂

farewell from the past, I’m Raymond.

the crusading couch; upcoming episodes

our next episode of the crusading couch is going to be titled: “what makes a good player?” i wanted to give the listeners an opportunity to make suggestions in advance of the recording, hence this post.

well be looking at what makes a good player in the eyes of the GM, as well as the view of another player. players might look for someone that doesn’t hog the spot light, where as a GM might be more concerned about whether his players read the setting material.

another episode coming up in the future will deal with the topic of letting go of campaigns and characters. this will focus on campaigns that drag on needlessly. as well as players that port their characters across editions, campaigns, settings, and genres. we have yet to set a date for when we will record that one but it is on the short list.

the next episode(what makes a good player) will be recorded on the 12th of December, so get your suggestions in before then.

the Crusading Couch episode 1

in our first episode of the crusading couch we ask the question; what’s a good starting RPG?
