Eclipse Phase: Fast Extraction.

This week we’ve got a nice short Eclipse Phase scenario that i just sort of whacked together. It’s a Martian Train heist, to kidnap a Jovian VIP. there are some references to our eCOPse phase games(new one in may).
If you’d rather watch the live stream than listen to it, you can find it HERE.

This is only the second game I’ve ever run online. I’ve played in a couple of online games lately and it removes some of the scheduling issues of a normal in person TTRPG run. This was probably the most linear scenario I’ve ever run, and the shortest; in spite of that i kinda loved it. I hope to run more online games in the future.

If you want to play in one of our online games: like us on facebook, follow us on WordPress, Soundcloud, and Twitter. I’ll try and run an online game every month, and they will be announced on those platforms…maybe we should do a mailing list as well?

The Quiet Year: Bears. Bears Everywhere.

This weeks podcast is another recording we made on International Table Top day, our second game of The Quiet Year.

Raymond helped run this game as we had five players. Things went off the rails pretty hard at times, but it was all good fun.

the photos we took of the map didn’t come out very well, but here they are anyway.

If you liked this game, we have other quiet year recordings you could check out.

Geek Out!: International Table Top Day Edition

A special irregular upload to celebrate International Table Top Day!

We’ve played a lot of games today, but the one we decided to share with you was Geek Out!

Geek Out! is a geek trivia and bidding game, where you leverage your knowledge of geeky subjects to out compete your “friends”. Topics range from black and white science fiction movies to famous actors’ roles. It’s great game for both small and large groups, and we recommend you play it at your next games night.

We had a truck load of fun playing and we hope that you have an equally enjoyable time listening.

If you did please LIKE and SHARE our content and check out our other podcasts to continue your listening experience.

Atomic Robo: Big Trouble in Akihabara – presented by RPPR

A couple of weeks back Raymond got to play his first game using the FATE rules. It was an online game of Atomic Robo run by RPPR, this time Aaron. RPPR are great podcasters; they do actual plays and a more traditional podcast/talk show type thing. You can fine them over here: http://slangdesign.com/rppr/
If you’d like to hear the whole recording, including the off topic stuff you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6MAT6IBKYac6cMvntElFbVJBlmHqsl6F
But I STRONGLY recommend the edited down audio version.

We’re not big Atomic Robo fans here at [IQH] but it’s an interesting setting filled with super science.

This is the set up the players were given:
Biomega Alert in Chiyoda Ward! Creatures from another dimension are stalking the alleyways of the Akihabara district. Citizens and technology are disappearing left and right, leaving behind shaken bystanders and stories of monsters. In an attempt to stop this campaign of terror, the Japanese government calls on their secret weapon for handing super-science threats: The Science Team Super 5! However on their first encounter with these creatures, the Super 5 seem the vanish without a trace. Running out of options, Japans premiere research division, Big Science Inc, calls on Atomic Robo and the Fightin’ Scientists of Tesladyne to find the Super 5 and discover the secret of the shadow monsters. Will they be able to save Japan in time?

Loved this game, really liked the rules. in fact I have an idea for a FATE setting that I’ll be revealing on our Crusading Couch pitch episode in June. OH also, I (Raymond) both improvise and sing a song in this podcast.

If you liked this podcast please check out our other recordings, as well as RPPR’s.

Pendragon: The Golden Hare Hunt.

This weeks game is Pendragon. Pendragon is kind of unique in role playing games in that it has an ultra-specialised setting and focus. In this game you play as a member of King Arthur’s court, either a lady or a knight. You can customise your character background and heritage in many ways, but you are still either a knight, or a lady. Knights, by the way, can be female or male or anything in between. Our Players all chose to be male knights, and elected to begin play in the relativity peaceful Tournament Period of Arthur’s reign.

Our first game takes place just a few days after the PC’s have been officially knighted. They are attending a Hunt held in the Queen’s honour. I really enjoyed running this game, and the players seemed to dig it as well. We look forward to running it again next month.

The Crusading Couch episode 5: player conflict

In this months episode of The Crusading Couch; Billy asks Kim and Raymond about player conflict and party disputes.
We discuss arguments over loot division, as well as GM’s trying too hard to please everyone. We also come back to a few themes from earlier episodes and view them in a new light. All in all, we think it’s an entertaining episode.

We’re still trying to grow our audience, so if you know someone that might like our stuff please SHARE it with them.

When we reach 100 likes on Facebook, or 100 subscribers on WordPress/Sound Cloud, we are going to run a special viewers choice one shot.
YOU, the Listeners, will get to pick the setting and system. You could have us play as the magical princesses of Saturn, on a quest to save their father from an Earthican death cult!
So please, like us on Facebook.

Arcanum Quest: complete playlist

Arcanum Quest was a campaign run by Kim. The goal was to transcribe the video game Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, into a table top role playing game. Kim tried to faithfully recreate the game, while also streamlining it into something manageable. He placed a lot of focus on the dialogue with some interesting results. The system we used was new world of darkness 1st edition; chosen because most of the players were familiar with it, and it had rules we liked.

Now I’ve got some thoughts from Kim, reflections from after the campaign was completed.

Arcanum Quest was, and still is, one of the most enjoyable role-playing experiences I have had. Whilst I am not an experienced GM, the sensation of bringing a world to life for the players is something that I crave to feel again.
The idea behind Arcanum Quest was to bring the world of the video game Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, to the table-top role-playing format. I purposefully asked players who were not overly familiar with the original game so that the plot would be fresh for them, and their experience of the world uninfluenced by any preconceptions that the video game might have given them.

The interactions that the players had with the world that I knew so well and loved was intriguing to say the least. My portrayal of the Arcanum world was not as accurate as I had hoped, and the feelings that I gave to the players were only slightly reminiscent of the original game. However, I think that the world which we created together, through my vision and planning, and their character ideas, personalities, and choices, was far more interesting, dynamic, and above all creative.
I often see worlds from video game RPGs that I wish I could interact with without the restrictions of the game. During Arcanum Quest I believe I tried too hard to make the players conform to the structures of the video game; something that video games can do very well by stipulating the way in which players interact with the world, which are far less effective for the table-top format.

The knowledge I have gained from Arcanum Quest warns me against trying to do such things in the future. However, I am not turned off adapting video games to table-top role-playing in the future, far from it. I am now resolved instead to try again with different worlds, but improve the experience for the players and myself by taking the theme of the world, some pivotal characters, and trying to re-create the ‘feel’ of the world, allowing it to ebb and flow and be moulded by the way in which the characters interact with it. Rather than trying to re-crate the game for table-top, take the idea that I love so much and give it a new voice, hopefully a stronger voice; and by doing so instil the same enjoyment and passion that I have for these worlds in my players.

I (Raymond) quite enjoyed the game, despite my frustration at times. I really look forward to more games from Kim in the future.

The Crusading Couch episode 4: story organisation.

This week, in lieu of an Arcanum Quest episode, we have this months Crusading Couch episode. In this podcast we discuss the importance of planning and organising your story. We also have a guest on, our friend Caitlyn. She’s been involved with role playing for a while and we thought she’d offer some interesting insight.

We hope you enjoy this episode of The Crusading Couch. If you did, please share it with your friends.

Arcanum Quest episode 4

I’m a little late on posting, but only by 40 minutes (it’s 0040 at time of posting).

We’ve got a fresh episode of our steampunk game, Arcanum Quest!
In this episode we take a lovely trip to a library, and burn down a culturally significant forest…that is also a city. We may or may not have murdered a monarch.
