We also asked you to check out two kickstarters for some RPGs.  One called Blue Rose, a game of romantic fantasy, and the other a paranormal police procedural called The Thin Blue Line.

Dungeon World: WHEN TRITONS ATTACK!

This weekend we had a bit of fun playing Dungeon World.
The plot dealt with the invasion of the clockwork turtle city of Corelia by the villainous Tritions. Our party of adventurers sallies forth to combat the threat and destroy the battle hardened Tritons and their queen.
A light hearted role-playing introduction where Raymond did silly voices, there was a fighter named Butthold, and Kim couldn’t handle his spicy nachos. It was quite the fun day.
We had lots of new players and the gaming group was a little on the large side; but all in all in was a good afternoon.

The [insert quest here] monthly writing challenge for July 2015

[full image might not show up, click view image to solve the problem] Bjorn & Bodil
Our inspiration for this month comes from Artist Jakub Rozalsk, and as far as we can tell it is titled Bjorn & Bodil. you can find more from Jakub on Tumblr or ArtStation.

The challenge is this; write a short story (or other piece of fiction) inspired by the above image, it need only be a few paragraphs long. You have until the 28th of July to complete this months challenge. A hint of advice, I recommend really immersing yourself in the piece. Inspiration doesn’t always strike right away. analyse the stimulus as a way of divining inspiration.

You don’t have to send your creations back to us or anything (but if you’d like to here is our email: insertquesthere@gmail.com).
We just want to help motivate you to write, and write in different and varied genres.

We’ll post our own attempts on the last day of the month.

We’ll be posting new challenges every month, so check back on the 1st of August to see the next challenge.

Raymonds attempt at the June writing challenge!

At the beginning of every month we we issue a writing challenge to all our friends and fans.
This was the stimulus for this months challenge!

I had a really hard time writing this one to begin with, to the point that I actually didn’t start writing till the last day of the month! I decided to go with something a little more experimental this time. I feel it worked, what do you think? Did you write anything for June? If you did, you should share it with us!

air acrid. heavy with gun smoke. burning rubber, plastic, copper. ozone. heat. blood.

screams ringing out. cries for help. wailing. explosions. full automatic weapons fire, passing.

The sky is red, sunset closing in. Black streaks breakup the rusty sky. A sharp edged gunship circles the city, it is predatory. none will escape while it lingers. The outsiders seek to destroy Asylum.

“Husni, I found Mother!” Sibling, Dana. Voice loud, strained. Origin-Caretaker-Mother must be injured. I must run.

Glass crunches and breaks under feet. gravel, debris, twisted burning steel; none of these will stop me. Dana, crouching. armoured skin intact. Holding Mother.

Dana speaks, voice soft. “don’t die. don’t die. please.” speech segment continues. decays into dry weeping. mother grows cold. we wait. we wait. help us.

Zodiac Hunt Episode 1: Capricorn

This is the first episode of our new actual play campaign, Zodiac Hunt; a Dungeon World campaign inspired by ancient Greek myth and legend.
The background for this campaign is that king Ib of Ophurica is offering lands and coins to whomever can bring to him 12 trophies, one from each of 12 unique monsters. These 12 monsters are meant to represent the creatures of the Zodiac.
There are a lot of people searching for these creatures, including a detachment of soldiers (lead by the kings uncle.)

The Crusading Couch episode 8: Would You Be Interested?

Slightly longer episode this month, but it is well worth it.

This months episode is all about game pitches. Wilfred, Kim, and Raymond each came up with 3 different campaign ideas(for a total of 9). We pitched them to each other; but we want to see what you guys think?
Do you have any suggestions for possible systems? Is their a game that you’d love us to play? which of these do you want to play? Would you run any of these ideas? Please leave us a comment with any feed back or questions you have!

Remember there is only a week left to complete this months writing challenge. You can learn more here.

Introduction to Role Playing Games… Game.

We at [insert quest here] want to give people new to the hobby of role-play gaming an opportunity to try it out, that is why on the first weekend of July (Saturday the 4th, and Sunday the 5th) we’ll be running an introductory game. We’re hoping to get new players in to try out games, but we’ll also open the table to people that have only played a few games, or who haven’t played in a while.
There are a few different game worlds we have in mind, but they all use the same rules. the three themes we are considering are: pulp science fiction, fantasy, and post apocalyptic. We’ll run games based on what the majority of the players are interested in.
If you are interested in taking part, and live in the Newcastle/Hunter area; you can email us to express your interest at: insertquesthere@gmail.com.

Eclipse Phase: Price of Doing Business

We recently ran an online game of Eclipse Phase. We were partly inspired to run this after watching a video by PBS Space Time covering the advantages of colonising Venus. A lot of the content discussed in the video is touched on in the Venus chapter of Sunward Eclipse Phase Book. If you are interested in checking out that video you can find it here!

The game itself follows our two player characters as they try to catch a smuggler transporting contraband onto the Venusian cloud cities.
