Verdant Mountains Episode 1: Night Falls

The first episode of a our new online campaign of Apocalypse World!
This campaign takes place in an overgrown world. Powerful, wild plants choke the sprawl of lost cities, as people try to survive beneath the canopy.
Our game takes place in the Verdant Mountains, an area of the Reclaimed Earth that surrounds an old hydro dam.

In our first episode Ryan, Alex, and Brandon introduce us to their characters. We also define the relationships they have with each other, as well as the community at large.

The Crusading Couch Episode 18: Challenges!

Wilfred, Raymond, and Kim discuss challenge in Role Playing and how to include it in your story telling.
We discuss the types of challenges you might employ, and when to use them.
How older challenge styles can be made fun and more involved.
How they can be used to tell the story of characters.
And bring to mind some things that you may not have thought of as challenges before.

The Sprawl: The CTF Job part 2

“You think your op went bad? You haven’t seen a bad op.

A bad op is when you’ve got 6 meters of concrete and steel to cut through and a broken thermal lance.

A bad op is when you’ve got A+++ mil-spec servers to crack and your psycho team mate just popped two in the back of your only hacker.

A bad op is walking into a corps local HQ without scoutin’ it first.

That’s a fuck’n bad op.”

Part 2 of the Sprawl, and the conclusion. Thank you to Brandon for running this game for us. You can find part 1 here.
And thanks to Alex and Ryan from Rag-NERD-Rok for joining us for this as well.
Hopefully we’ll make it back to the Rio-megaplex one day.

The Sprawl: The CTF Job Part 1

“Welcome to the Rio sprawl shitbird. I ain’t got time to expalin every little fuck’n thing to you, so let’s keep this short.

The Church is strong here, every gang has connection to ’em some how.
The cops are just as likely to scam you as pass you by.
If you need something special, hit up Nicomedia.
If you get grabbed by the RBEH-BFPC, money is your best way out, and I pay the shits. You don’t want to end up on one of their farms.

Oh yeah, one last thing. If you see a man of the cloth; don’t fuck with them. Some sins are unforgivable.”

Recently Brandon (a friend of the podcast) ran a two parter of The Sprawl for us; a powered by the Apocalypse cyberpunk game. It got weird quite fast when we were designing the Megaplex we call home. Alex and Ryan, from Rag-NERD-Rok, joined us for this as well.
Find part 2 here.

The Warren: Button & Olive

We’re back from our road trip and we’ve got a fun little game to show you. The Warren; an Apocalypse World Engine game about wild rabbits.
In this one shot, Brandon and Raymond play bunnies in Central Park.
It’s a great game, and we’d love to do a campaign some time.

The [insert quest here] Monthly Writing Challenge For April 2016

tumblr_o4czme699b1qcmtb4o5_540
Havoc & Mayhem

This month’s stimulus comes from artist Ariel Perez, you can find more from Ariel on ArtStation.

The challenge is this; write a short story (or other piece of fiction) inspired by the above image, it need only be a few paragraphs long. You have until the 28th of April to complete this months challenge. A hint of advice, I recommend really immersing yourself in the piece. Inspiration doesn’t always strike right away.

You don’t have to send your creations back to us or anything (but if you’d like to here is our email: insertquesthere@gmail.com).
We just want to help motivate you to write, and write in different and varied genres.

We’ll post our own attempts at the end of the month.

If you like to see what we created from last months stimulus, check it out here.

Raymond’s Entry In March’s Writing Challenge!

Managed to smash this one out before the start of 3BIAB. I think it’s pretty solid, a little short than what I usually write.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. And hope it inspires you to write something of your own.

Matrix Garden

The silent pulsing yellow and red light was all that illuminated the surrounds. A black concrete room lined with server banks. The frozen air and ceramic dust float through the breached hole in the roof. Crop-sec had figured that the gang of intruders had been trying to loot the vault for cash. That was simply payment. Peering down into the server room from the vault above was ring of five heavily armed and well equipped thieves. The server data was the mark.

Three Boys In A Barina 2: Boys Go West!

It’s the return of a special event. Bigger, better, and broker.

Over the next 10 8 days the hosts of the Crusading Couch, and the fine managers of [insert quest here] will be venturing into the Australian outback.

Wilfred, Kim, and Raymond will be driving, walking, riding, and swimming their way to Broken Hill the outback. Along the way we’ll be trying to complete a scavenger hunt, an Easter egg hunt, a wombat hunt, and probably some other kind of hunt as well. We’ll be making daily posts to our facebook page, and to twitter; and you can follow our journey there.

Now this unfortunately means there will be no new podcast on Monday(the 29th of March.) However, when we return we’ll have daily travel logs, and a massive haul of photos to share with you all.

We hope you’re all as keen as we are.
Farewell from the past; Raymond, Wilfred, and Kim.

The Crusading Couch Episode 17: What Does Your Gear Say About You?

This month on the Crusading Couch we discuss the intricate interplay between equipment and characters. From your character’s favourite weapon to the handyman’s tool that they can’t be without, we discuss the meaning of the gear that your character has, and what that says about how they behave.
We approached this topic from the perspective of the character in the heat of the moment, as well as the thought that you the player put into those choices; whether that was consciously or sub-conciously.
